Things I enjoyed this weekend…

Movie - last week I unearthed the subconscious reason for my very conscious lack of desire to see Avatar (thanks ibelieveindesign, BOO papyrus and unavoidable type-snobery skewing my opinion of good things) I saw it in imax and was happily surprised. I left the theatre a little visually awe-stuck and pondering laughing at recent talk of “Avatar Blues”.

* Found this picture of a REAL plant that looks somewhat like those gorgeous floating white spirit things in the movie… note to self: use them as inspiration for some design project - perhaps in my forthcoming personal logo/identity.

Discovery: reduced Balsamic vinegar is sold in squeeze bottles!!!!

Anyone who knows me knows I love vinegar and use it in cooking whenever possible… probably eating a hole in my stomach lining right now but nonetheless I’m THRILLED at this finding and subsequent free bottle of said product in Andrew’s cupboard. (+10 boyfriend points!)

mmmm drizzle.

Treat: getting a facial with T and Stinky Steph as part of T-birthday celebrations. Really want to get into the habit of getting one seasonally…

GRAMMYS: SO impressed with them this year. Not going to delve (too deep) into my opinions but overall was very entertained and thought the celeb-match-ups were totally on-point…loved gaga’s performance gear (minus awkward upward crotch shots)

GAGA

And still cannot believe Aubrey “Drake” Graham is that famous famous.

(See my 2 seconds of fame as North Toronto debater “Hanna”/how non-thug Aubrey is on Degrassi NTG season 4 episode “Time stands still pt.1” cue 12:41).

I first was amused by this while reading an interview on “street cred” with my friends of Das Racist fame … checkit.

Also enjoyed (fast-forwarding through the commercials of) the Miss USA pageant. Guilty pleasure: pageants. See: the hilarity that is Toddlers & Tiaras.

“I’M TANNED AND READY FOR THE STAGE!”

** Things I did not enjoy - missing what sounded like a magical girls weekend back in Toronto… I wanna be in this picture pretty bad -

Wondering where my stamp collection at?

If memory serves me I haven’t seen it since 1995ish. Fond memories of stamp club after school with my lovely grade 3 teacher Mr. Stefano, Fasher taking me to weird neon-lit stamp shops to add to the collection, and then showing Pearl our findings. I would postulate that I dropped the hobby due to its nerd-appeal.

Well, stamp me. The Nerd is back.

An absolutely stunning film. So many beautiful things soothed into one.

The elegant dialogue amped my desire to learn arguably one of the most impractical but beautiful languages in the world.

The fashion (charged to Jil Sander and Fendi) left me in a sort of trance-like state. Anyone looking for a lesson in Italian style need not look any further than this film.

And then there was food. The Jenna Jameson of food porn - albeit a shaky comparison it really did capture the essence of epicurean existence. (If there is a better porn-star to name here I welcome suggestions).

My initial reservation to see the movie based on the hardly revolutionary plot was somewhat deserved but every other aspect of it was truly delightful. It was complete feast for the senses; and it surely heightened my excitement to travel back to the motherland of my Italian.
